I think that the best camping experience I ever had was when I was in grade 6, I was 12 years old. Our school had gone camping in the mountains near Banff and it was the best time of my life. I first got to climb a mountain, right to the top, and place a rock of my own there. The view was absolutely amazing! I think that was the first time that I really fell in love with the mountains. Now you can't keep me away from them. After completing that great feat of strength and courage (and now being on a bit of an ego trip), the trip even got better.
I have always had a vast interest in Native culture, and to my delight, we got to learn how to shoot a bow and arrow, make and sit in a steam tent, make Bannock and cook it ourselves, and to top it all off, we got to sleep in a genuine Teepee! It was the most amazing time of my life! I know that to most people it probably doesn't sound like too much, but that one week when I was 12 has touched my heart for 14 years. I still think of it with very fond memories.
Thanks for listening!
