My stomach was churning as the big bold letters came into view. They read, "Camp Timberlane." The bus came to a sudden stop and a counsellor at the front of the bus stood up and yelled, "Everybody off!" A stampede of eager campers rushed from the bus, into the bright sunshine of Timberlane. My name is Mark. I have blue eyes and I am allergic to milk. I love playing sports, I'm not a great swimmer, and my birthday is July 27. I have been looking forward to camp for months and now that it is here, I can't believe it. My friend Justin saved me a bunk beside him. I arrived also to hear the good news that I wouldn't have to take a swim test like usual. Although I'm not a great swimmer, I made some big improvements last year.
That night for dinner we had chicken with mashed potatoes and broccoli. For dessert they served jello. After dinner we were ordered to go back to our cabins and unpack.
After that was done, we had free time until 7:30, which gave us 30 minutes. The time passed quickly and before we knew it, the time was 8:00! I started running to my cabin, but suddenly I spotted 2 counsellors dressed in all black. I had an urge inside me to follow them, but my desire to stay out of trouble on this first day kept me from doing this.
The next day flew by quickly as programmes filled the day. After dinner, we were given the same rules as the day before. I played until 7:30, but today I followed my urge to follow the 2 counsellors. I waited in the bushes until I spotted 2 counsellors again dressed in black.
I saw them at the same time in the same place and followed them to a camp fire. Everything seemed natural until they sat down and . . . and . . . disappeared!
They were ghosts! I ran and ran! I couldn't stop. I came to the main highway and waved at a police car passing by. "Timberlane is a ghost camp!" I blurted.
The police officer looked confused and replied, "Camp Timberlane burned down in a fire 2 years ago."
